For someone attempting to lose weight strictly through exercise and healthy eating, you can expect to lose 1/2 – 1 & 1/2 pounds per week. This is the average amount of weight lost by most people, and does not take into consideration any medical or meal replacement diets. Remember, the goal is to burn stored body fat in order to lose weight, not dehydrate yourself. Athletes, on the other hand, are often forced to “cut weight” to make their weight division for their specific sport. This is water weight and will return within 24 hours.  While cutting weight is dangerous because it puts a lot of stress on the body, in particular the organs, unfortunately, this is still common place in sports. So don’t confuse “losing weight” with “cutting weight”
