excuses I recently read something in a marketing book by Bedros Keuilian in reference to Napoleon Hill. I feel it really applies to many things in life outside of business. This is a list of commonly used alibis that people give for their reasons for failure. There is one distinguishing trait that seems to be common amongst all people who do not succeed. So as you read it, examine yourself carefully to see if you have fallen victim to any of these alibis.

By the way, I happen to love Napoleon Hill’s philosophies, so if you haven’t ever read his work, you really should, it’ll change your life. And this is another post from my Optimum Philosophies segment. So read on and if you enjoyed it, please leave a comment in the comment section.

Alibis:

If I had a supportive family…

If I had more money…

If I had a good education…

If I could only get a job…

If I had good health…

If I had more time…

If times were better…

If other people understood me…

If I would have only been given a chance…

If I had been born under different circumstances…

If they didn’t have it in for me…

If there wasn’t anything to stop me…

If only I were younger…

If I had been born rich…

If I could only meet the right people…

If I had the talent some people have…

If I didn’t have a husband, wife, etc…

If I didn’t have to keep house and take care of the kids…

If only I could save some money…

If only I had someone to help me…

If my family understood me…

If only I could lose weight…

If I lived in a bigger city…

If I lived somewhere with more opportunity…

If I didn’t just start…

If I were only free to…

If I could just catch a break…

If I only knew how to…

If I didn’t have so much on my plate…

If luck wasn’t against me…

If only I had been born at a different time…

If I didn’t have to work so hard…

If I hadn’t lost so much money…

If I didn’t have a past…

If I lived in a different neighborhood…

If I had my own business…

And the real one that should be asked is, “IF only I had the courage to see myself as I really am, I would find out what is wrong and what is making me unhappy, and correct it. Then I might have a chance to profit by my mistakes and learn something from the experience of others, for I know that there is something WRONG with me, or I would now be where I WOULD HAVE BEEN IF I had spent more time analyzing my weaknesses, and less time building alibis to cover them.”       -Napoleon Hill
