This is our second post of the “It Must be Great Making Your Own Hours” series! I recently read an analogy that compared owning a business to hunting or plowing fields. I thought it was a great depiction of the importance of ambition and self-motivation in running a business.
Back in the old days before we had the modern conveniences of going to a grocery store to buy food, it was imperative that you rise from bed to hunt for food or plow your fields to harvest your crop. There wasn’t any such thing as sleeping in, not feeling it today, or even being sick. You either did it or you’d die. And if you were responsible for other people, especially if you had kids, they would die too.
Now fast forward to present times. A lot of new business owners think business will simply come to them. Or they think running an ad is all you have to do to get people in your door or make the phone ring. Realistically, you better be doing a number of different things to bring in new business. And believe me, you will probably try a LOT that are a total waste of your time until you figure out what works for you and your business. Hope you enjoyed the post, I think it’s a great mindset to have when running a business.
