Rehabilitative Exercise
What is F.I.T.T. and how’s Rehabilitative Exercise differ from regular exercise?
F.I.T.T. (Function Integrated Training & Therapy) is the name of the method that Melissa created. It’s our own version of a Rehabilitative Exercise Program. It’s designed to correct imbalances in order to relieve joint and muscle pain. This is accomplished by improving mobility, flexibility, and stability for better body mechanics. As a result, daily living activities and athletic performance get better. – Flexible programs starting at $73
What is a Corrective Exercise Specialist?
A Corrective Exercise Specialist is like a bridge between a personal trainer and a physical therapist. They often work with people just coming out of physical therapy because they’re not ready to be on their own. Other times, it’s because medical insurance didn’t cover therapy at all. Athletes seek help from them to balance muscles out of whack from long term competition in the same sport.
How do I know if I have an imbalance?
Failure when attempting to perform a particular movement can mean muscle imbalance. Especially if it’s a movement that previously wasn’t a problem to do. Another way to expose imbalance is with a Movement Screening.
Common triggers that can create muscle imbalances:
- You suffer from joint pain or back pain for no apparent reason
- You’re lacking range of motion in a particular area of the body
- You’re just coming out of physical therapy
- You play sports now or in the past
- You have a joint replacement
- When walking, you display a limp due to an ankle, knee or hip problem
- You were in an accident and suffered a previous injury that still acts up
- Your job requires a repetitive movement
- You were diagnosed with tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, sciatica, a sprain or strain
How does the F.I.T.T. Method work?
A Movement Screening identifies muscle imbalances which show as compensations
Soft Tissue Mobilization (I.A.S.T.M.) breaks up scar tissue that limits movement
Overactive muscles are deactivated and lengthened using myofascial release techniques and True Stretch equipment
Corrective exercise then activates and strengthens the under-active muscles
Would you build a new house on a broken foundation?
Of course you wouldn’t, that would be a waste of money and time, not to mention it’s not safe. The same goes for your health. Start by creating a strong foundation first, then safely transition to a personal training program later if you choose.
