Business_Ownership This is the first post of our newest series, “It Must be Great Making Your Own Hours”. This is to highlight all the other factors that are an integral part of running your own business. While yes, on one hand it IS great knowing that you are making decisions that will affect your future, but on the other hand there’s a lot more to it. Those of you already working for yourselves or running your own businesses, will be able to relate.

Our latest and pressing issue is that our yoga instructor of two years is leaving. While she gave plenty of notice, it is still difficult finding someone to step into her shoes. One, we need to find someone that is good at teaching yoga, but more importantly, we need to find someone that the students like.

People get attached to their instructors, and the last thing a fitness facility wants is people leaving because the instructor is leaving. Now in our case, she will be moving out of state because her husband is in the military and is getting relocated. So it’s not a matter of students wanting to follow her, but a matter of finding someone that they like.

Then there’s the issue of finding someone that I, as the owner, feel comfortable with. I will need to give him or her access to my studio as well as trust them to be responsible enough to arrive on time, teach a great class, and lock up. This also means that in the beginning, I will have to be present every time we have a yoga class until I feel I can trust him/ her. I will be chained to the studio with longer hours until I feel I’ve reached that point.

So this is our latest and most important change that we are currently dealing with as a small business. Wish us your best and check back for an update. If you are a business owner, or considering starting a business, you may find this and future posts eye opening.
