good life As part of our Optimum Philosophies series, I was inspired this week to write about life getting out of hand when partying takes place too frequently and health starts to suffer. Many of you reading this may not be strangers to this topic. I remember a time back when I lived in Iowa, before I was involved in the health and fitness industry, when my life was a lot different than it is now. I was not making healthy choices and as a result my life reflected it.

Ask yourself, are you noticing you’re getting sick more frequently? Are you sleeping later than you used to and missing out on important things? Is your work life balance off due to excessive partying? Maybe your work is suffering because you’re not at your best when you are there?

If any of these things sound familiar, it’s probably time to make some changes. One of the most direct and effective ways to change is to start incorporating healthy activity into your life. You will be surprised at how much better and fuller life seems when you feel good. And it’s hard to feel good if you’re not taking good care of your body.

You may be thinking, duh, that’s obvious, but then why aren’t you doing it? We can often get away with poor lifestyle habits when we are in our twenties, but soon things start to catch up to us if we don’t make changes. You will be surprised at how infectious living a healthy lifestyle can be. Just as infectious, if not more so, than living a life of poor health coupled with bad decisions.

When you take good care of your body, you feel better. The sun is brighter, you want to smile more frequently, and life in good again! If you want a happier life and don’t like the road you are going down, then change it! Pick one thing today that you will do differently than you did yesterday to live a healthier life.
