Protect Your Vision

Hello again, this is the second article of my new blog, The Proactive Life: Living Your Life to the Optimum. Here we’ll be focusing on educating people to improve overall health. We’re kicking off this five-part series on the senses beginning with vision.

Of our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, sight stands out a bit above the rest for most people. For me, I witnessed my grandfather’s life take a turn for the worst after he lost his vision when I was 10 years old. Back then, medicine hadn’t progressed to where it is now, and cataracts and detached retinas were not as easily repaired.

Our eyesight and ability to see can be damaged by genetics or environment, so extra care seems logical to protect this wonderful sense. Being proactive with glasses and goggles is one of the easiest ways to protect your eyes and probably the most obvious. It also greatly helps to prevent trauma before it happens.

Eye Protection

Taking care to shield your eyes from bright sunlight with premium eye wear should be your first step in vision protection. Not only will it create a better experience and look great while you do it, it’ll decrease your risk of UV damage. Without good protection combined with prolonged exposure, cataracts and macular degeneration can develop.

Other natural elements like wind and water can also cause damage. Goggles are the way to go in this case. Whatever your sport is, there is high quality eye wear to go with it.

Sunglasses for bicycling with curved lenses to cut wind resistance, and fishing glasses with polarized lenses to help you see into the water, are common these days. Goggles for snow sports and motorized activities like dirt biking and motorcycle riding have come a long way over the past decade. Many often come standard with interchangeable lenses for you to swap out depending on conditions.

There’s really no excuse to take chances with your vision, as protective eye wear is both effective and stylish at the same time nowadays. If you enjoyed with article, please be sure to check back soon for the next one of this series. We’ll cover how to live proactively with regard to your hearing.
