five hour energy drink In the February 2013 edition of Men’s Journal, a small article by Sarah Toland appears in the Health News section outlining the dangers of energy drinks. It states that according to a new report from the FDA, drinking caffeinated energy drinks can kill you! 5-Hour Energy, a two-ounce shot, contains more than 100 milligrams of caffeine per ounce, and is linked to 13 deaths. Other health problems like convulsions, miscarriages, hemorhage, and even deafness are also associated with it. If it’s energy you lack, exercise works wonders! Just check out our S.W.A.T. Camp Sunday mornings if you want energy as well as fun.

Monster Energy, a 16-ounce drink, is linked to five deaths as well as to heart attack, diarrhea, and arrhythmia. I learned from  this article that the caffeine found in these drinks is synthetically created in a lab, not found naturally in plants like the coffee bean. In addition, most energy drinks are unregulated by the FDA, so they don’t even have to undergo the same testing that our foods and drugs undergo. Your best bet is to stay away from these drinks altogether, and stick with coffee or tea when you  want caffeine. If you’re ready to take the next step, consider starting a personal fitness training program and invest in your health instead of wasting your money on energy drinks.
