While it may come to you as no surprise that the knee is one of the most commonly injured joints of the body, most people don’t realize how much of a role body weight plays in knee pain. According to the Arthritis Foundation statistics, every pound of weight a person puts on equates to four pounds of pressure on the knee joints. That’s a lot! While there are many ways a person can cause damage to their knees…blunt trauma, sprains, torn ligaments or torn meniscus etc, a lot of pain can also be attributed to the burden of carrying around additional body weight. With this in mind, it’s obvious to see how important it is to maintain a healthy weight in regards to alleviating knee pain and avoiding future knee problems.
