The holidays are upon us, and as much as we may tell ourselves that we’ll maintain our exercise routines and healthy eating, actually doing so may be another story. In reality, our lives get hectic and so we tend to break our routines whether we want to or not. So instead of fighting it, it’s often better to embrace it and just make adjustments accordingly. For example, rather than attempting to do your regular workout, maybe plan to improvise and do something different. If you have to go shopping at the mall, maybe it’s easier to stop for a run or a brisk walk on a trail on the way to the mall. If you normally go to the gym four days a week, maybe 3 days will suffice during the holiday season. If you know you’ll be eating things you don’t normally eat with the pies and cookies that grandma will be making, maybe be extra ridged on the days prior to and following grandma’s visit. You get the idea. Just stay flexible with your routines and you can stay on track during the holidays.
