Continuing on with our series about common misconceptions when it comes to fitness, today’s post is on skipping meals to lose weight. While at first this idea may seem logical, doing so is not only dangerous and unhealthy, it’s also damaging to your body’s metabolic rate. In other words, skipping meals sends a message to your brain telling it to slow everything down and hold onto fat stores to be used later if necessary. Your body doesn’t know when it’s next source of food may come in. On the other hand, the opposite also applies. If you get in the habit of eating small, frequent meals 5-6 times a day, your body will more freely use calories, ultimately increasing your metabolism and helping you to burn fat and shed pounds.
