Hi everyone, Melissa, head trainer at Optimum Condition here. We often get submerged in our day-to-day activities and stresses in life, so it’s important to combat that with quiet, relaxing time as well. For me, a good hike does the trick while clearing my mind and stimulating creativity.

This past weekend, my dog Fender and I did another awesome hike at Sycamore Canyon. Got there a little later than planned, but that’s the great thing about living in San Diego, it’s doesn’t take long to go from an urban area to the country.

Remember, just because you didn’t get up at 6am doesn’t mean you can’t still fit in a great hike. San Diego offers a lot of open space reserves often within 15-30 minutes of driving. And some are even plopped in the middle of the city if you don’t have time to get to the country.

Got to see some wild life and a coyote darted right across the trail in front of us. Fender gave chase, so it’s a good thing he’s well trained on his recalls! Also saw one of those amazing construction helicopters lift an entire signal tower! I don’t know how tall those towers are, but I would guess 80 feet or more. It was pretty amazing to watch off in the distance.

If you find yourself getting bored at the gym, open up your options a bit to all the beauty around you. It’s not only physically good for you to get out in the fresh air away from the city, it’s a great balance on a mental and spiritual level as well.

Melissa
